UPS Mailbox as LLC address

I'm starting an LLC and would like to use UPS's services for a street address so I do not need to use my own. Does anyone know if I can use their "personal" small mailbox for this? I couldn't seem to get a clear answer from anyone at the 10 different locations I contacted. They sell small, medium, and large "personal" boxes and then a "business" or "corporate" one which costs significantly more. They justify the price difference because businesses tend to get more mail. My IM business shouldn't really be getting any mail at all so I'm wondering if I go and buy a small personal box if I can use that when I apply for the LLC. Any thoughts? Thanks

IMO you are better off using a service specifically for concealing the fact you're using a private mailbox (as opposed to a physical street address). The (great) book How to Be Invisible by JJ Luna talks about this quite a bit. I don't know either way how it affects registering an LLC however.

You can use the UPS box but you have to have a Registered Agent to accept legal documents on behalf of the LLC. This can be YOU at your real physical address, a Registered Agents service ( you have to pay for this) or your Mom. UPS is not usually a Registered Agent.

As for the personal box it will be in your real name and not the company, so any company mail "may" get placed in there but don't count on it. Just pay for the business box and deduct as an expense from your business

I believe the it varies by the state you live in. I know my local post office just started allowing a P.O. Box to be used as a business address.

My local ups store has an option for personal plus, 2 personal names and one corporate name.

Unless you're doing something like ebay, I've never seen the need for a larger box - most of the mail that you get in IM can easily be digitized....

If you buy a personal mailbox at the UPS store they won't allow you to fill in a company name on the contract, if you buy a business mailbox they'll receive for basically any individual or firm name that comes to your box number, if they think you're using a personal for business they may refuse items or cancel your box unless you upgrade to "business." It's worth the money in my opinion as it lets you put domain.ext with your UPS store box as the contact for all domains you don't want privacy on.
