I ripped a news video from CNN on youtube. I was going to upload it to reddit, rather than link to the URL on youtube. Is this allowed on reddit, or does the post get deleted/account suspended due to copyright? I'm trying to remember if I've ever seen others do this with their videos.

You can post it and absolutely nothing happens or post it and get taken down/banned. Nobody knows for a fact what will happen. But yes, it is way riskier than just linking to a Youtube video. Reddit in general hates self promotion.

Just post it. For youtube you will need to disguise the video a bit, put a overlay or something else.
