Does anyone have a good guide / info on upgrading a Magento site?

I need to upgrade from 1.3.2.4 to the latest 1.7.

Appreciate a good step by step guide / video on this.

If you also have old modules and theme, all hell is going to break loose. Good luck, you 'll probably need it.

If only everything is as easy as upgrading as Wordpress - Magento always seems to break for me!

Zencart is the real bitch though.

I recently did a 1.3.2.4 upgrade to 1.5. Took a few hours. Best way that i found was to run a fresh install of 1.5, dump the database and let Magento upgrade the tables automatically.

Run it on a test server and it should go fairly smoothly depending on the number of extensions, etc you have that may not be compatible.

Make a list of your installed extensions for Magento 1.3 then research whether they will all behave with 1.7. The file structure changes between 1.3 and 1.7 so expect to redo your theme manually, or pay someone to do it.

Yes it can be very difficult! Normally upgrading breaks the theme and plugins etc.
i think yachi who is a member here offers it as a service.

Note also that Magento is susceptible to getting hacked if it's not updated.
