Hi Guys

I'm not quite sure how to properly update my listicle post i have for the new year in order to not lose ranking or traffic.

I have an article that is like "11 Best Book for XY in 2021" and also the URL is like domain.com/11-best-books-for-xy-in-2021". If i want to update this article and also Meta Information for the new year, how do i deal with the URL, what is the best practice? What to do, what to avoid?

Happy for all the feedback from you guys.

Thanks a lot,
Capucho

Yeah, it wasn't a good idea to include the year in url.
You can re-name the post (remove the year) and use 301-redirect.

Thanks a lot for this fast reply, really much appreciated.

I will keep that in mind, to not include anymore the year in the URL, was not aware of that when i originally created my post back then.
Does i understand correct, when i change in Wordpress the permalink of the post from "domain.com/11-best-books-for-xy-in-2021" to "domain.com/11-best-books-for-xy", it automatically generates the 301-redirect? I do not have to create this redirect anywhere outside of the post settings?

How is your experience with that, does this change not have a negative impact on the ranking or post? I did read on some blogs, that regularly updating a post does often have a good impact.

Change it, and don't use year in the domain, maybe the ranking will be down for some time, but keep updating blogs, and build some very high authority links, it will cover your ranking issues.
