A serious security flaw has been discovered in the Webp image format and all browsers and other programs that can display Webp images should be updated.
Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Brave are some of the browsers and other programs that have started rolling out updates with an important fix for a serious security flaw (CVE-2023-4863) that was recently discovered in the code library libwebp, Stack Diary writes .
The code library is used in most browsers and many other programs to display images in the Webp format, a format that compresses images better than jpeg and in recent years has increasingly taken over the web. The security flaw was discovered by Apple and the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto, and appears to be related to a flaw Apple recently fixed in Mac OS and iOS, which was reportedly used by NSO Group's Pegasus spyware.
