So I came across a keyword that I know for sure can rank easily. It's very unique and don't really have competition after Google updates.

I also don't care to build this site into a major brand just to monetize and make some money from it is the goal.

I found an expired domain that is unrelated to this keyword (checked on archive) however the domain name does not have any specific term, it's more like a random word sort of name.

The backlinks are from news websites and the DA is 29.

Now I'm just looking to rank.

However do you guys think it will be fine? In terms of the authority/link juice even though it's unrelated to this keyword.

You can use that expired domain. Relevance between the old niche and your new keyword helps but Google’s link equity mostly comes from the quality and trust of the referring sites.

if it's $10-20 it's worth a shot (although, if such a "good" domain costs only $10 something seems suspicious)...

If you have access to Ahrefs / Semrush and the domain expired this year, plop it into Ahrefs / Semrush and check its history for the last 12+ months for:

- rankings
- traffic
- backlinks (plus their anchors, of course)
- indexed / deindexed pages
- number of keywords that have ranked / dropped

By analyzing these factors (along with checking the content history on WBM) you can tell whether the domain is safe for google.... Actually, there are more checks that need to be made than these, but if the domain is bad / penalized in some way (abused anchors, tanked by google updates, etc) you can easily tell by checking the above...

If you don't see anything wrong with it - and again, if it's only the normal registration price - I would personally buy it...

The biggest problem I could see with it is the niche / content relevancy. Being the biggest dipshits that they are, google will probably not rank this domain if you stray too far from the original niche / content (or if the previous owners have changed the initial niche), but if you don't care about google (and you shouldn't) and have other means of getting traffic for this domain then it's worth getting in the hopes of ranking in other search engines.

Thank you for the detailed reply, so I was able to snag this for free but the links are great, I also did my checking

The only issue is relevance but I'm hoping I'll still rank easily and maybe throw some history in there in the footer or something. Competition is so low for this unique one but one site that is ranking is DA 8 with 500 word or so content and doesn't really satisfy the keyword well enough, also has mixed content so its not specific like how I'll make the site

I did jump quick as I'll only start the site in September but I saw the links and then quickly registered it after checking it out
