Search the forum and couldent find anything concrete .. anyways .. does a unrelated anchor backlink help in any way?

For example .. you have a blog that sells shoes. You have a backlink from a farmacy site. Will this weigh anything on my site? thanks

It will surely help you. Getting links from relevant sites is better. getting links from irrelevant sites will help you a little.

yeah. relevancy is better. i tend to only go after irrelevant ones if they are high pr or high aujthority, otherwise i go after relevancy.

Actually it never matter for me. My site have a great rank and i build the backlinks in all the blogs that i could find, so i guess the big G only count the links anyway

Absolutely it would, it'd probably would look unnatural to Google if ALL your backlinks came from relevant sources.

These are my opinions on the matter based on a large number of prolonged experiments.

Relevant site, relevant anchor - very good
Unrelated site, relevant anchor - good

Relevant Site, unrelated anchor - ok
Unrelated site, unrelated anchor - very poor

Micallef is correct although any link back is better then no link back. I tend to get mostly links from unrelated sites although still managed to get top rankings with my keywords.
