Hello,
Please make sure that you read the TOS of Webhosting Providers because NOTHING is unlimited in the world of hosting. Generally, this is unlimited as their is not a pre defined amount of space, but please dont take advantage of it because its up to the web hoster if the terms have been breached. Had a user (will remain nameless) think it was OK to upload over 65GB of images/etc to the server. We opened a abuse ticket and advised him he would need to move to a VPS. He then opened a paypal dispute because we said it wasnt unlimited? We provided him the snippet of the exact wording of the disk usage. So I just want to make you all aware of unlimited.

I guess it comes down to fair usage policy right?

65gb on shared hosting is a bit ambitious !

There is no such thing call unlimited. Else all web hosting Company will have to close down. Unlimited is just a marketing gimmick. Sometime I would rather the web hosting Company be upfront on the limitation.

I rather believe to promise which can be delivered.
And lets face it, nobody goes ahead and reads all those crappy 4-5 pages of terms and conditions. So if anyone is truly limiting something it should be written in bold or CAPITAL to make sure your customers aren't deceived or at least they won't feel deceived. Else they would leave you, never return back and also do a negative marketing for you, forget referrals from him. A happy customer is worth 100 more customers, Remember that!

In the first case, why do you mention unlimited when it's limited?

If you say it's unlimited then what's your problem at 65 gigs? If you have a problem with that then don't say it's unlimited, say it is limited to 50 gigs or so. I don't like people who just throw in "unlimited" words to gain customers and then they say it's not unlimited.

Spot on, I concurred with some members here.

If you'll like to make it short, excluding 4-5 pages of Terms, why not state down "Get Unlimited** hosting for free".

Below the text, quote a pretext mentioning "Unlimited** means up to 25GBs or 30GBs at maximum". Explain: This is to make our resources friendly and available to other users etc.

I completely agree with all of what you guys say. Its more on the lines of "Fair Usage", because if your not defining the webspace its self, then technically its unlimited. Now, if you were truely using unlimited, then the word "unmetered" comes to mind. I agree that unlimited is shady practice, and I think we will be phasing out the term unlimited and offer a more limited-to-the-point webspace.

I think this is more fair in the eyes of the customer, I just mainly wanted to bring this to the attention of community.

The guy opened a Paypal dispute over 3.99/month? Petty as hell.

3.99 a month would be a lot to someone in India, or a country whose currency doesn't convert well to USD. Or the customer is just starting out with web hosting, and doesn't understand finite server limits. As a developer, I fully understand the real meaning behind 'unlimited' hosting.

Edit: I mean no disrespect towards Indians, or those not aware of server limitations.

My friends friend went to Quebec with his class as a school trip. It was like 8 hours so he turned on a hot spot for everyone. He had unlimited. They used alot. Near the end of the trip they shut off his data usage because he used so much

No it was for a little more than that. He also got a domain, which when we refunded it, its ours now. I will be selling it to anymore who is interested.

Yes unforunately, this happens even for ISP's they say unlimited then once you reach a threshold theythrottle you down to dial up like speeds.

This guy was french. But I thought I made it very clear when he kept saying "ok" and when we recommended a VPS, He said "Sure How much?!" Pretty sure he understood english just fine. Haha.

Honestly, if he just would have said, I dont understand why its not unlimited. Or you told me it was unlimited, I am confused, sorta thing. I would of happily refunded him WITHOUT the paypal dispute. But its over with now, we have adjusted our plans off the "unlimited" and actually set it to a defined amount, so something like this cant happen again.

Yes, somewhat he side-tracked and launch a dispute. By right, customers are likely to send e-mails over demanding explanation but seems shady......

hahahaa :D

If I were ur client I would report u in a second to the competent authority. Unlimited=unlimited otherwise it's a scam.

Its not a scam if you read the TOS, so trend lightly before you call me a scammer. I have over 100 active clients. But regardless, I have changed up the term unlimited. SO, your saying your cellphone company is a scammer if they offer unlimited data, so you are also saying your internet provider is a scammer if they offer unlimited data? Get off your high horse.
your hosting DMCA ignored? because i want to run movies sites
Yes we have DMCA ignored hosting, but we offer a LIMITED set defined amount of disk space now :)
