hi all,
hostgator offers as you know:
UNLIMITED Domains
UNLIMITED Disk Space
UNLIMITED Bandwidth

but i dont understand what unlimited domains mean. Does it mean i can use unimited domains from other external domain provider for my webspace their? Because when i want to register i have to register one domain too. But i only want webspace from hostgator and buy the domains from other providers. Is that possible?

Thanks for your help :)

hosting and domain buying is different hostgator means you can host unlimited domains with them so you can registerthe domains names from somewhere else

yes that is what it means. you can host as many sites as you want with whatever domain names you want and these domains can be registered wherever you want.

You DONT have to buy the domain from hostgator, their ordering system gives you the option only if you want to.

don't think it means you can get unlimited .com or other domains for the price that is listed. It is just the hosting, domainnames will still cost you extra. however i wouldn't recommend to get domainnames at hostgator without reseller account, too expensive!

Whoever your hosted with should have videos to show you how it's done. Plus Google and YouTube are your FRIEND!

Yes hosting and domains are two different things. Hosting is the server where your website files live for the domain names that you buy.

Shared hosting is usually under $10/mo and usually comes w/ 1 domain name.

If you want another domain name (.com, .net, .info, etc.) or several, you have to buy them extra from a registrar (i.e. godaddy, namecheap, etc.) and then point them to your name servers at whoever your hosted with.

Once they propagate you can then set them up on your server with wordpress or whatever. I use Godaddy's domains and they propagate just about instantly with HostGator, I would highly recommend you use the same registrar for all your domains that way you can keep track of them all and their all organized in one place.

If you miss the email they send you when it's up for renewal...that's BAD! and your screwed! especially if you've established that name, it gets tons of traffic and it's making you lots of $$$
It's now up for sale and is potentially someone else's now! because you forgot about it...So that's something to think about before you start buying domains.

Plus don't forget Google/YouTube is your friend...lol
