I am in a similar situation, trying to decide between a more unique, catchy name that could actually develop a brand, or go for a more plain keyterms name which would be better for SEO.

I'm going for the unique name I think if that helps.

If you're going to brand it then make sure it's brandable. Exampledepot sounds better than everythingexample. Seo wise it'd be the one closest to your keywords.

If your focus is branding then go with unique one, if your focus is to get benefit from EMD name then choose the other.

How about buying both? And then brand the brandable domain and use it for the main ecommerce site, and use the seo keyword domain as a buffer site? Host it somewhere else, different IP etc.

Yeah, buy both, it would be a lot better. However, from SEO point of view, choosing a domain that is closely related to your keyword is a must. Also make sure your name is catchy, you will have a better chances of customers remembering you and coming back.
Catchy, unique and memorable names are brandable. It's a good idea to use .com domains.
I wish you best of luck in your business ventures!

It all depends on how you want to market your site. Is this an actual brand-able company? If yes, then obviously go with a brand-able domain over an SEO based one.
