A cousin of mine has invested in 30+ websites and he has been ranking well until all hell broke loose.
looking at the sites, majority of the
PRs = N/A
Links shows by SEO quake are about 100-200 junky links BUT the domains are all from 2007-2010.

He has been told by his Ex SEO guy that the sites were flagged by Google and no one can do anything !!

1- could a domain really be flagged to the point that it will NEVER rank again?
My consult to him was:
1- clean up junk
2- good link build up with relevant niche blogs, social media link, PR and wiki
3- new content and possibly new wordpress theme on all the sites and we might have a chance.

would u guys agree? or would we be better to start fresh?

Google's on an uncompromising mission. It wants to give its users access to accurate information, unique content and the finest writers. It continually tweaks and improves its algorithms so that the best of the web gets the exposure it deserves.

If deindexed, then trash em and restart over and minimize footprints. Sounds like he was lazy.
If NOT deindexed (he's lucky) 301 over to new sites and let the fun begin.

Good luck Bros.

There is a big difference between scraped content and copyright infringement. Sometimes, a company will copy your content and claim the credit of creation.

1 - It is possible, but reviving those flagged sites takes tremendous amount of effort. If the sites are manually penalized, recovery usually happens after another update. For example, if your site got penalized by the Panda update, your site will only make it back after the next algo update, if you did proper cleanup.

On Consulting.

1. - Great
2. - Awesome
3. - Thumbs up. I don't know if installing new theme will do much. But if it means improving user experience, then by all means do so.

Verdict: If these 30+ sites are really important and they are magical cash cows, then it might be worth reviving them. But if they're dispensable microniche sites, you should probably invest your resources on new sites. :)

If you're throwing them away, I'd love to get my hands on one. I would like to test my SEO skills on a penalized website. :)

Fresh Content is the King.. You have to make over and over.. :p

Pr=n/a doesnt always mean your sites are flagged
Check "site:domainname" in google .com. if you dont find your index pages then they are deindexed
With google "prevention is better than cure" is very true. To reindex the domain, it takes lot of effort and may be not worth it.

doenst seem like the sites are deindexed. site:domain.com --> random check of the sites all yield result.
Does CRM / no CRM vs. HTML make any difference in the ranking?

I should mention, we were told the site's contents are unique but the site structure is not responsive either.
