unique images- influence on SEO

How important are unique images in SEO? And is there a way to create unique image out of stock image allready uploaded on web? I am about to start a blog affiliating product of my chosen niche and I wonder how much attention should I pay to pictures.

As far as I know, unique images have no direct importance or effect on SEO. Millions of images are reused multiple times all over the Web and there is very little image unicity. Image and text are 2 very different beasts, it is very easy for a program to analyze text, it is much more complex for code to understand images. So the algorithm does not care about duplicate images.

The only thing to worry about is make sure you do not publish copyrighted images, as you may be sued for it, but it is very rare and only when done at large scale.

You can use Photoshop to produce "unique" images but its very time consuming and not worth I think... I use free stock images and sometimes Google some (no choice because no topic stock images when) lol

Having an image(s) is good for SEO. Using old (assuming that you have the right to do so) or new images will not make a huge difference. The alt text is more important than if the image is old or a new one. Just don't use the bare keyword like 'red gadget' you're trying to rank for in alt description, be more creative and descriptive, instead of 'red gadget' say person using 'red gadget' with appropriate context. Or 'red gadget used to .... let's say ... accomplish something. It won't boost your ranking to top 5 but it'll help a bit.
