Already told it was for fun! Although I wouldn't do it again if I was younger lol.

But it doesn't take much to look around and see that having a diploma, any diploma, is quite useless. Business managers more and more often say that they don't give a shit about diplomas, yet unis keep perpetuating the myth because it gives them money. Well, at least that's what's happening in Europe, dunno much about US, except that the fees are stupidly high over there and only stupid people can pay that, when they know they won't get any guarantees at all.

Yeah, that's not happening at all in the US. Almost all large firms and corporations require a Bachelor's degree at a minimum, unless you are coming onboard with 20+ years of experience. There are some outliers, but that's the standard.

Of course, it may be different for fuckin' music technology, but any useful, worthwhile, applicable degree, the things you said are 100% not the case in the US.
 
If you can afford it get yourself to uni mate. If you don't like it then sack it off. But at least give yourself the chance to make that decision.

lol music technology major complains that uni is useless. You must have been one of those hipsters who sat around the campus playing music and thought that it would last forever. The only thing more useless than one of those college guys is a liberal arts major. Enjoy being a grunt.

You're wrong about companies not wanting degrees. I've had several jobs that required a degree. You'll never make it beyond doing grunt work without a degree. Hell in software development, it's common for the manager to have an undergrad in CS and an MBA.

That's completely false. It's pure garbage that admissions marketers have been using to brainwash non-thinkers into taking out huge loans they can't really afford to repay for 4-6+ years of "education" that generally results in them being dumber than when they entered. In the USA and most other countries, the average person is NOT an ideal candidate for 'intellectual' work like programming or engineering. Those skills require a fair degree of innate talent that cannot be taught.

Most small to medium businesses looking to hire someone value demonstrable skill and reputation above all else. Credentials are what incompetent people rattle off because they know they can't actually get anything done and have nothing to show for themselves in terms of work they have done themselves. I was hired numerous times on nothing but a high school diploma for programming jobs that paid 6 figures and allowed me to telecommute 3 days out of the week. I've had similar arrangements at both new and established companies.

Today, I own my own company that I started myself and built up, with people working for me...including some college grads. Their degree or lack thereof was practically irrelevant in the hiring process - what I look for is competence and capability. When I sit down with a potential hire, if they lead with credentials instead of their accomplishments, they've already reduced their probability of me hiring them by 1/2. The reason is simple - when you think you're good you tell everyone about it, but when you know you're good people tell you. In my case, I tell them by paying them.

Peasants without them think they mean nothing, it's not their fault they don't have a good job and not having a degree has not held them back from being team leader at the local super market.

We'll just have to disagree, but despite me not finishing uni... I see they have huge value even today.
 
I'd say many college grads are bitter since there's plenty of college-educated baristas and olive garden servers out there. :D

So short answer: You don't need Uni cause steve jobs, bill gates etc. dropped out and they became rich. Period.







Just kidding actually. The real truth is the following

There are two kinds of people in this world:

1. The ones who will make
2. The ones who will not make it

If you are in the first category you will make with or without a degree it just doesn't matter.
If you are the second kind of person who can have a degree etc. but you will not become super rich or anything like that (around 95% of people are like this)

I did not regret going to college because:

1. It's basically free (scholar for 4 years), just have to pay a small amount for miscellaneous shit.
2. I've known a lot of awesome people that I could network with.
3. Parties.
4. From where I am, it is the ticket for you to enter the corporate world and have a decent job.

I was looking at a masters of data science course through Stanford i think and it was 60k a year, and its online! not even on campus, how fucked is that.

I live in London, UK and universities around here cost around 9k-10k. I'm sure it can be way more in some unies here
