You're not gonna get your student loans wiped by bankruptcy. You can, however, go into forebearance where you don't need to make payments and they wont charge interest if you have no money. Call them and talk to them, I think they give you like 6 months - a year and then establish if you have income again.

ve been in the medical field for a long time, but in anesthesia a relatively short time. I'm still trying to reach a comfort level on the day to day practice, but after that I will feel more comfortable with picking up some locums maybe on vacation time, etc. It is a good option for me eventually. Thanks.

So far I'm keeping Sallie Mae at bay for right now as you have mentioned. I will use forebearance on those instruments as long as I can. I did not communicate early enough with AES to head off alot of headaches. The debt collectors are vicious. I did ask one of the AES reps how he sleeps at night. He said it was none of my business.

I don't know if it will help you, but any new student loans as of a year or so ago within the US are now government owned. Obama also claimed in a speech that anyone over 40 would not have any student debt under the new plan. To me, it's obvious what is going to happen:

People will just pay their minimum balance till their 40, and effectively have the US tax payer pay for the difference! We can't afford this!

Anyways, yeah, as for you, I would recommend going to talk them down from a certain payment per month, to another one. I'd imagine you could pay someone who would be willing to do that, for a cut of the money that you saved... in other words, say now they are asking (demanding) 5K/month... that person tells them with your living expenses blah blah...you can only afford 1K!... that person then might get say 10% of what he saved you every month for negotiating the deal for you...which would be worth it for both him and you!

Here's the deal:

Just don't pay. Most educational loans are secured and go to the deparment of education once they default. They can garnish your wages but they can only take 10 percent. You'll lose 10 percent of your income for life but honestly, what other choice do you have?

Edit: ewww 25 percent? It must be different in your state.

i feel for ya. but you know whats an even more disgusting travesty then this? the most lucrative jobs markets going forward (anything web based) arent even taught in a regular curriculum. full sail university and etc. are not the same as a public university. so now, when you go to a joke Marketing course at a college, your learning how to design fucking flyers, when you could be learning the basics of search engine marketing, or affiliate product promotion, or any REAL skill that we employ here every day at bhw. its a racket all right. id give my LEFT FUCKING ARM to learn from a guru in a class room atmosphere, as im sure all of you would have at one point or another.
