Unbanned datacenter proxy vs Residential proxy?

I have noticed some datacenter proxies can have good effects when being used for botting. Does this mean they might be on the same level? Do companies really check if an IP is residential or just if it hasn't been used for botting (banned) before?

Anyone care about proxies here?
