New Member. Read the rules. Posted my Introduction. While thinking about what to do as my primary purpose for being here, I decided to ask questions about uMatrix, and see what knowledge there may be to be found. Not my primary purpose here, but this is of high personal interest to me, as I have used uMatrix for years, read that it's been deprecated or replaced in some way by what I think of as a "child" software of the parent, and also something-something about Google "cracking down" and it no longer works, it has security holes, is not maintained and updated by it's author, etc...
I like it, and it works. Even now. I think. I see numbers like "4 years ago" it was broken beyond repair, or whatever, and so everyone should move to ad-blocker "X". Highly resistant to this idea, and feel like it's all manipulation and redirection, that that the software works, and works TOO WELL, and giving people the ability to selectively say NO to websites and their ability to force you to have their data littering-up your browser makes the "Great Powers" unhappy. I don't care about the Great Powers; I want to be able to surf the web without garbage taking control of my browser, littering my visual landscape, SQL injections, hijackers, and blaring porn ads when I forgot to turn off my speakers. Maybe there are children nearby, and maybe a parent who might decide that contact with me is as toxic as the content on my computer. Infinity reasons to take control over my computer, from internet strangers from anywhere in the world that care ZERO about how their ad campaigns, and surveillance, affect me. In short, Privacy and Control, and who should have it. I say "Me". I should have privacy, and I should have control My computer, my internet, my software, my browser, my audio space in my living space and my visual field in my living space, and mine, mine, mine, mine and mine.
Does uMatrix still work, or am I wrong? Is uBlock Origins a crippled version of uMatrix that also doesn't work, or am I wrong? Why is it that uMatrix was not only supported, but also not improved? Example, the ability to float a mouse cursor over an unwanted ad, and right click, select that URL or domain to be "BLOCKED" and not have to look at text ever again. I don't know about "everything", but I'm certain of THAT THING RIGHT THERE, and it needs to be GONE. I'll worry about "everything else" later.
Seems to me this level of functionality should have been the natural, organic sequence in a progression that went "backwards" (apparently) instead.
Is there a paid version that I don't know about?
Thanks in advance.
