2 years ago I read about a super network in Europe where they tested some new components. The article (from a serious source) said the download speed went up to 1Gb/sec. Now that's insane... Problem is, it would be way too expensive to implement.
 
Damn I hit 1mbps and thought I was cool :( Guess it all depends on the server.

Read something like that about 2 years ago. Might be the same. It was in finland, sweden, switzerland or somewhere close where the engineer involved hooked up his mum or granny. What a waste.
 
Big deal. I can download files from my intranet at 9 megs a second.
 
They are doing some test in finland for 10GB/s network now i think. But its not use for normal people i think since hard drives can only record like 10mbs . Correct me if im wrong ;)
 
That is now classed as normal connection I can download a DVD in about 20min from the newsgroups. Also do you think that was a remote server or one on his local network. and yer the next issues we will face is writing to the disk fast enough.
 
That's a speed test, actually getting that from a download would be insane..
 
That's not really ultra high. I though it's 1,57Gb/s and it's only 4Mb/s. That's somewhat average in Europe. I have 20mpbs/10mpbs line over here and that's still not enough for me :D .
 
I am studying Electrical Engineering right now, I can probably create something like this in the future.
 
i can get 1meg d/l and thats on a basic 10 mg connection. Plenty of places offer 24+ meg services, and thats just residential. Commerical can get dedicated OC connections, and they're f**king fast!

Well, my "hi-speed" connection is a "whopping" 256KB. Ha!
I once tried 10MB but it didn't speed things up very much. I didn't realize that
10MB is a speed limit rather than a speed rate.

In other words, if the other guys can't send at 10MB (and many couldn't...) then
your connection will be no faster than theirs. :(

Well, that video it's nice - but ... i think it's a fake.

Why ?

Well, install a free web server (like Abyss), throw a .iso in www folder, connect another pc to your LAN, browse the server's ip, then start downloading.

The speed will be high because of the LAN.

I have friends on my Dc++ hub with a speed of 8 MB/s.

So, think twice ;)
