UK posters ... just how nasty is this word?

I apologize ahead of time for asking this question. If you don't want to be offended, please leave now.

I have a client who doesn't want to change her store name, but should. We're going over other options, and the only one she's really considering is "The Spunky Slut."

In the US, that would mean the "feisty" slut -- which, I suppose, could work. It's kind of trendy to reclaim deragatory phrases for women. The store gets a chunk of business from the UK though, and I had some concerns of how it would be interpreted.

Would it mean "fiesty" ... or something much worse?

Women - Would you shop there or recommend it to friends?
Men - Would you feel strange if you saw your wife/girlfriend/mom recommending it?

Would you feel comfortable liking this page on Facebook?

I'm hoping to pass comments along to the store owner, so please be gentle. :p

I would expect to see some dirty old tart covered in jizz....I wouldn't recommend it as a name.

In the UK, spunky means full of sperm. To spunk is to ejaculate.

A slut is generally someone who is promiscuous.

So it is not an ideal username.

I don't really agree with the answers here personally. From the UK and if I saw 'spunky' in a username I'm not going to think spunk I'm going to think exactly what you thought. Basically a synonym for fiesty.

I wouldn't personally like it on Facebook but purely because a page with 'slut' in the name sounds like adult content.

If she's paying...
I'm from the UK. depends on her target audience,
Catchy, could do more good than harm actually. It's not a name people are gonna forget in a hurry

A bold name. Depends 'where' it is I'd say. East London, Brighton etc. would all love it.

I'm Irish, lived in Scotland 20 years and just asked some English friends in case it was an English thing. Nobody hears 'spunky' and thinks sperm.

I vaguely remember a friend of mine having jeans that said 'Spunky Monkey' and nobody assumed they were into bestiality.

I don't think anyone is going to bat an eye using it as a brand name. They might be hesitant to Google it but let's face it how many e-commerce sites actually get navigational searches anyway.

for real??

Anywhere in uk if you put spunky next to the word slut it will only conjure up one picture..

I’m assuming she’s a hooker right?

Most of the country is smart enough to understand context. As a brand name, I don't think anyone is going to think hooker. "I got 10% off at Spunky Slut" is not going to make you think your friend got 10% from a hooker.

If a female friend liked it on Facebook my knee-jerk reaction would be a clothing and/or accessories store.

This thread really worries me. Then again we're talking about the island that voted for Brexit so fuck knows maybe we do all laugh at fart jokes and are going to think you're drop shipping hookers.

she is the boss, the boss is always right.

also

you might do not like the name, but she is liking it.
and many others will like it too.

Thanks for everyone's opinions. I will pass them on. It sounds like it's something that might work out okay for her audience.

she is the boss, the boss is always right.

Ultimately, business owners do what they want, but you don't have to keep working with them if they're making bad decisions. I think it's best to walk away when you have chronic or major differences of opinions.

I would definitely click.

It depends on what she is selling, certain brands can get away with pushing boundaries. It might actually appeal to some Women, possibly younger Women. If the products are stylish and aren't cheap tat then she might attract customers.
Think FCUK etc

If she wants a vague idea of how “good” it sounds, ask her to type the spunky slut into google.

I actually tried that upon your suggestion, and as exactly I thought, all porn websites you could think of in one place

In English it's just tacky as fuck. If your target audience is the victims and offspring of Jeremy Kyle, then you are on to a winner.
