Saw this on BBC this morning. Disappointed, but not surprised.

There are literally thousands of uses for proxy services online. How the hell can they categorically state that his service was used purely for piracy???

The world has officially gone mad.

Sometimes I wonder if these reports are even real or if they're just trying to 'scare' proxy users and illegal downloaders and such.

Glad to see the UK is being bent over and fked in the ass by the leeches in charge of music and film industries.........

Its not correct. He was not arrested for running a proxy service.

He was arrested for running a proxy service which provided access only to the restricted websites in UK (intentionally).

So, this is more of a case of deliberately breaking the law or a form of protest against the law.

From where did you obtain the word "only"?

This is a prime example of the rhetoric used to convict innocent people.

Note to self: Stay out of the UK.

Millions still want to flock to this over crowded, under funded, minimum waged slave trading, pay over the odds for everything, island paradise!! Makes me wonder why? The enticement of free money, over crowded housing and taps with running water must be a god send to some people.

Heh. When China or whatever blocks access to a website or two, we get free speech activists setting up proxy sites with intention to get around the block. Why those activists are not getting arrested?

I would not be surprised if this arrest was ordered by someone whose copyright has been messed with.

Just read the article again. I can see no mention of the proxy service ONLY providing access to restricted websites. The only mention of this is a general suggestion of why he may have been arrested in a comment.

If the site did only provide access to restricted websites then yes he was asking for trouble whether people agree with the law or not but I see nothing at all to clarify this as fact.

Wow! I was thinking of starting a site that did similar as i'm sick of friends on a mainstream ISP here in the UK asking me how to unblock piratebay.

Bit harsh on this guy. I hope to god this doesnt make it all the way through court as it will show the legal system is finally well and truely fucked here.

His site was immunicity.org archived here https://web.archive.org/web/20140714042238/https://immunicity.org/

Is this really illegal here now!

Also whats up with City of London police going after someone in Nottingham. Ridiculous.

This is the dumbest shit.... running a proxy website gets you arrested? LOL, I thought Canada was bad enough...

So does it boil down to if you run a proxy page, something like Glype or whatever the flavour of the month is, you are going to be stitched for getting round ISP blocks?

If I am old enough to pay my internet bill I think I am old enough to judge what I want to look at / browse to / do on it.

What if you use VPNs from home, does that point out that you are doing something dodgy, what about SSH tunnels........this country has gone mad.

Welcome to Not So Great Britain........the new nanny state

edit: double post. internets shit here too.
