:( Well, not a good morning for me at all. I logged on to my online bank account(Thank God I Did) and noticed there were 2 fraudulent transactions from my Debit/Credit card. So I called the bank and filed a dispute and will get a new card 7 to 10 business days. It looks like there was a Skimmer at an ATM I used at a store this week. It happened 2 days after I used that ATM.

And I was going to use that money for traffic this weekend. I'll just have to wait it out for a week or so. So therefore, lesson learned. Only use ATM's at a bank, not a store.


Has this happened to any of you? What other precautions should I take to prevent this from happening again?

A skimmer? That is the first time I hear off this. Either the guy was very smart in some way or the ATM machine is exploitable.

I haven't had such a issue but just don't use the same ATM machine that you used and everything will be ok.

It's just a false front or a tag fitted to the slot the card goes in, really simple to set up, then you just get a blank card and clone it, and use it in a machine. Usually there is also a pinhole camera attached to the top of the ATM to see your pin number be entered so they can use it directly too.

I hear you there buddy. I've seen this on TV news and Yahoo news about skimming at ATM's and in stores. Thinking it wasn't going to happen to me. It's happening everywhere. My Bank manager mentioned it's been happening alot here. She's been getting calls every day regarding this stuff.

OUCH!! Making me think twice of using an ATM again. Now I'm Paranoid. I think even when I go to the bank, I'll ask the teller to check the machine to make sure there are no skimmers:eek:

I'm from USA. From Louisiana. The No. 1 capitol murder state. Hoping my house sells soon so I get my a$$ outta here Lol.

I'm not sure what's wrong with my thanks. Strange though!
 
ATM machines are VERY vulnerable. A card reader, web mini cam and DIY skills get a lot of low tech thieves very far.

I live in an european country that is literally under attack with tens of ATMs exploited in the last 3 months...

Be very careful. Even with bank ATMs. Look for something suspicious like strange parts (card reader out of place, web cam, someone at your side looking, etc)
 
Also another one that they do now is a mini mic so they can hear the tone given by the key presses, as a lot of people will now look for a camera, not a microphone.

Thanks man! I will be ultra careful next time. I've developed this habit of not carrying cash around me. I think my habit will change now. Carry Cash! I've used ATM's all my life and never had a problem. There's always a first time and hopefully my last. At least the $200 will be credited back to my account within the week.

I hope these thieves are caught. But I doubt they will be.

Sorry to spoil it for you buddy, but 30k (yes, pounds, I know) ain't that huge amount tbh and I really doubt you could "be on a beach somewhere, forever" with that kind of money.
