Most of the courses related to SEO on Udemy are usually CRAP....follow what is taught on BHW and apply your own twists....and you will succeed 
Their instructor content on their blog is pretty good. You get the benefit of reading about some of the market research they've done. It's specific for their courses, but some of their ideas and information can be applied to marketing in general.

You can read a dummies updated book then learn pbn then your in.
Simple
But you need to keep upto date on seo pratices it all reading what works what does not.
Remember a book chages time you read it your learning the basics once mastered thrn go for pbn then continue reading forums as google chages so do you....
