Which one is better for privacy and security "desktop user? I know some basic Terminal commands and that's all.

Go for Ubuntu if you're more of an average user. Kali has lots of pentesting tools onboard which will be useless for you

Linux Parrot is also good, I hear.
You don't need a proper pentesting OS like Kali if you don't know how to use them, or don't need those tools, as the above poster said

Kali linux is for pen testing. It's not really that much suited for Desktop (nor for privacy) usage I think. Tails should be a better choice for privacy I think. Coming to Ubuntu, it is the proper desktop Linux I would normally use. It can be as private or as public as you want it to be, using the right tools and settings.

kali Linux is better for security but if you are not as professional user then my suggestion use Ubuntu as it is more easy to use and user friendly interface for desktop user.
