two smaller sites or one large site

Lets say my niche is school, would it be a good idea to have one site that's based on grade school and another site that's based on high school or just have one site with both? This is what I think, since both niches are similar people might stay on the site longer since they might want to find out more about high school or grade school. What do you think?
*This isn't actually the niche I'm using but I figured it would make a good example*

I'd say one site.
If the information is all relevant then why split it up, remember the old phrase... "Content is king."
Keep it all on one site and hopefully escape any 'Thin Content' penalties.

I'd always say one big site. You can have that website have sub-categories, sub domains, and build it up to an authority site status. The above poster is correct about "Content is King". Always update your content and make sure that is unique and not duplicate.

Definitely one big authority site is better then two micro niche sites, unless you want to go for two different authority sites then it is better for you to go for two diff ones

One site would be easier to manage but then it also means putting all your eggs in one basket. Why not build 3 sites? One for each, & one big one, that way you can use the two smaller ones to feed into the big one and at least if one of them doesn't work out you still have the other two!

Two sites, mixing children and people who are nearly adults is bad. High school level, allow soft curses etc. Do NOT allow curses below high school as the parents will complain, but publicity but bad rep. I'd say two, I would (No Sponsorship) sign up for host gator which allows 2 hosted domains for 6$. My opinion, don't use godaddy! Thanks
