Ok so first question is, I'm in a state Amazon doesn't 'accept' is there a way I can get around this?

Secondly, how long do their tracking cookies last? If someone clicks my link, will I get a % of their sales for the next 30 days, just this day or what?

Much appreciated, thanks to anyone who can help :)

I've had an Amazon aff. account for over a year now but I just started using it seriously - I've also got your second question - how long do the tracking cookies last and how easily are they deleted?

Amazon cookies last an amazing 24 hours. Yep 24 hours only so you better make the sale right away

Oh wow, that's bull shit. That's really to bad as Amazon is so popular.

I had an old ebook that mentioned Amazon having a 30day cookie, and I was like damn, I wonder if its still like that... I guess not.

Amazon cookies last only 24 hours..... but that is not that bad... visitors normally purchase within that time..

BUT.... the cookie life gets extended to like 90 days if they put something in the cart.

so there you go.

Amazon is a goldmine ...even with their 24 hour cookie.

Oh! Its a 90 day with adding into the cart! Nice to know, thanks!

So if you find someone who buys a lot of stuff from Amazon... and they click your link and add something to their cart within the next 24 hours, I will make a profit from all of her purchases for the next 90 days!?!?

Thanks for that info, Virus1!

This is great news - I am assuming most will either purchase or add something to their cart within a day.

Another question - if the user already has an active cookie with another affiliate, and then they click your aff. link, does yours override the older cookie? Probably not very common, but just curious :P

I'm also still wondering about how long it takes them to pay, and if you can get around living in Arkansas, California, Colorado, Illinois, North Carolina, Rhode Island, or Connecticut.

I think they pay you whenever your earnings go above the threshhold for your payment method: https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/network/your-account/payment-info.html

Can't find any more information but it should be immediate or monthly.

Payment is a brutal NET60 so there is a LONG wait until you get your check. Example, Earnings for the month of November will not be paid until the begining of FEB if I am correct. But as Virus1 said, conversions are incredible and there is a lot of money to be made there even with the 24hr cookie duration.

Multiple accounts is a good idea in case they decide to ban you for some stupid reason....they tend to be much like G adsense in this regard and also tend to wait and make money off of you until they are supposed to cut you a check to ban you.

As for getting around the state ban I would just set up an address in another state. Preferably you will be able to use a friend or family member's name and info to take care of the account info when signing up. Just give them a small cut for their troubles. And yes, if you are being 100% legit you may have to pay state taxes to that state in addition to your normal income taxs, but I'm not a tax expert by any means so you might want to get some better advice on that.

I will say that I have an address in IL (a banned state) and in VA (an active state with amazon). I called Amazon and they even told me that as long as I listed the VA address as my address on the Application I could still even deposit the checks into my IL bank account with no problems.

Wishing you the best

Interesting - I wasn't aware that Amazon banned as heavily as Adsense... what are the most common reasons for getting banned?

You can check out Viglink or Skimlinks to get "around" it. I think you get a flat 6% as opposed to the tiered 4-8%.

What happens is that you make sales for them, and they take 25% of the cut. 25% of 8% is 6%.

is it somehow possible to create a link that will add the product you are advetising directly into the cart witout having a amazon shop on your site? hm

So you can live anywhere and use them for Amazon links? Will the 90 day cookies still last towards me? Have you been using these affiliates for a while now?

There is a way.
I use to use a BH method(secret, don't even think of asking for it) that would make everyone that click on the banners to add some random item to their cart.

It did NOT increase commissions.
People that buy from amazon will buy within the first 24 hours.

Most common reason is spamming your link.

they only pay you if the click comes from a visitor on your website.

They pay net 60

That means sales in Jan will be paid like end of march.
Around the 26 or so.
Just got a payment like 2 days ago for 1000s of dollars.
I have gotten bigger monthly payments from amazon than most people make in a year.
So they are not stingy with payments.
IF you make the sale, they will pay you.

Good Luck

I believe your cookie will override the existing cookie.

So the last affiliate link that person clicked on will get the commission.

Well, I haven't used Skimlinks so I can't comment on them, but I haven't had a problem with Viglink. I've also only been using them since September. From what I know, Skimlinks has a better stats system so it gives you a much more detailed report. However, Viglink supports more affiliate programs.

You just add this javascript code onto your site, and any link you add will become an affiliate link (assuming they support the vendor). The cool thing is that the links look like regular links rather than long affiliate links. Once someone clicks on it, javascript turns it into an affiliate link. The bad thing is that if someone has Adblock, the javascript code doesn't work. I've heard people working around this though.

I would assume anything related to cookies would not be altered, and yes, people in banned states use them. I started using them because my state was banned. :)
