Twitter Video Format?

Hello guys,

I was trying to upload a video (MP4) to Twitter but it's saying - wrong format.

Which type of Video format you guys are using for Twitter? thanks :)

I use .mp4. It works for me.

Maybe your video is too long? Twitter has the limit of 2 minutes 20 seconds on the length of a video.
 
.mp4 is good format
Maybe your video is to big? The maximum file size is 512MB.

Yes, the video is 4-5 minutes long, but I saw people are uploading videos up to 15 minutes before.

No. the videos is less than 100MB actually.

I saw Business Insider, Bloomberg and Forbes are uploading up to 10 minutes videos.

Why is 2 minutes 20 seconds for me?
 
Guys, MP4 is just a container which supports a large number of codecs, video and audio (DivX, XviD, H263, H264, H265, AAC, MP3 and others).
Maybe you are trying to upload a video with unsupported (by Twitter) codecs. Twitter has algorithms to extract media info, if codec is unsupported then error appears.
I think this is the problem with your media.
Also, commercial codecs may have some licenses and restricts.

They probably embed videos from their sites, not upload it directly to twitter. Or maybe they exclusively allowed to upload longer videos. I don't know.

For anybody else the limit is 2 minutes 20 seconds.

Yes, twitter was telling me - wrong video format.

Not the file is too big or the video is too long.

No, not embedded.

The videos are directly upload on twitter because they appear to be full-sized!

When the video is embed from another site, then shared on twitter it would appear in a small squared box.

The best way is to install specific utility. Try to google "Handbrake".
"HandBrake is a tool for converting video from nearly any format to a selection of modern, widely supported codecs."
Online services can apply shitty watermarks and are slow af.
Handbrake is open source and free.

These are major accounts. Try and find a normal account with such long videos - you won't.

Split your video into parts and upload within the limits.

When uploading videos to Twitter you’ll need to make sure that your video file meets the limitations of video resolution and length. Here are some notes to keep in mind:
  • Videos must be 2 minutes and 20 seconds or less.
  • The minimum resolution for Twitter videos is 32 x 32 and the maximum resolution is 1920 x 1200 or 1200 x 1900.
  • Supported formats are MP4 and MOV on the Twitter mobile apps and, on the web, MP4 with H264 format with AAC audio.
  • The maximum file size is 512MB.

Video specifications and recommendations

Recommended:
  • Recommended Video Codec: H264 High Profile
  • Recommended Frame Rates: 30 FPS, 60 FPS
  • Recommended Video Resolution: 1280x720 (landscape), 720x1280 (portrait), 720x720 (square)
  • Recommended Minimum Video Bitrate: 5,000 kbps
  • Recommended Minimum Audio Bitrate: 128 kbps
  • Recommended Audio Codec: AAC LC
  • Recommended Aspect Ratio: 16:9 (landscape or portrait), 1:1 (square)
Advanced:
  • Frame rate must be 60 FPS or less
  • Dimensions must be between 32x32 and 1280x1024
  • File size must not exceed 512 MB
  • Duration must be between 0.5 seconds and 140 seconds
  • Aspect ratio must be between 1:3 and 3:1
  • Must have 1:1 pixel aspect ratio
  • Only YUV 4:2:0 pixel format is supported
  • Audio must be AAC with Low Complexity profile. High-Efficiency AAC is not supported
  • Audio must be mono or stereo, not 5.1 or greater
  • Must not have open GOP
  • Must use progressive scan

Longer videos are possible, you just need to broadcast them live first, via 'Producer' (in Media Studio). Then afterwards they're available for anyone to view the whole video again. I once uploaded an hour long video this way. Only problem is, broadcasting live is not meant to be allowed for Adult accounts, so i got nervous and deleted all my longer videos. Maybe i'll try it again with a smaller account...
