Is there a Twitter tool out there that can send you an email alert for a trending topic with who you follow on Twitter? Say something happens in your niche and all the people you follow start tweeting about it. Can you setup an alert for something like that? I try to keep an eye on tweetdeck but I can't do it all the time.

On Tweetdeck you can use Twitter search operators to make new columns:
Add column -> Choose column type -> Search -> from:username "keyword"
That column will show you only those tweets of a specific user, which contain the keyword.
But i think with IFTTT, you can do pretty much what you want. You can use the same search operators to set up the Twitter trigger, after that you only need to set the action, the email.
To the same analogy, you can set up trend/hashtag monitoring too with both tools.
Practically you only need to make yourself familiar with the Twitter search operators and maybe advanced Twitter search too, if you want a more complicated search string.
