It's laughable really.

On one of my accounts I like to post funny jokes which of course gets retweeted and then people start following me.

One of the sources I've been copying/pasting the tweets from keeps mentioning me, and his followers are suggesting I'm 'stealing' his tweets.

My question is, do you reckon Twitter would ban an account simply because you're tweeting the same humour/jokes that another account is tweeting?

I mean how the hell can you steal someone's tweet/joke? A joke is recycled millions of times throughout the world, it's simply changed slightly to include the subject that the joke is about. I've had a mention saying to enjoy my account whilst I can because it'll be banned soon for copying

All I do now is block any user who mentions me regarding it.

Thoughts?

Personally never had this issue and a part from a couple real accounts of mine, I have very little original content, if any... ;)

I just can't imagine Twitter giving a rat's ass about me tweeting the same joke that another account tweets? I mean, why would they?

I also have more followers than that account as well.

A joke is a joke - since when has a joke ever been copyrighted?

I don't see why they would care. They do afterall let you "retweet" someone else's post anyway

Yeah, but that's giving credit to the original tweeter.

I guess ethics come into it, but if I find something funny I copy and tweet it. I never say I thought it up, but people just retweet it and I get new followers.

It does make me laugh though how people get wound up about it. I'm getting some serious abuse over it, but as long as the account is safe, I don't mind at all.

Are you the guy that keeps lifting Frankie Boyles jokes !!! I cant imagine twitter being interested in this at all...the whole site is based on re-sending on information and content....Are you worried that by not re-tweeting you wont get the follows ?

Nah, that's not me.

And yeah.. if I tell my 40,000+ followers ONE of the sources of my jokes (I use several and it is my sense of humour that picks the ones out I feel are the funniest) then I'll get less credit and fewer followers.

It's my personal account so I of course tweet about random things as well and converse with people.

Just not sure what the big deal is. Like I say - are jokes copyrighted? If they aren't, you can surely pass a joke off as your own, if you so wish. Whether it's ethical is of course a different matter.

As far as I can see tweeting without crediting the originator is an inconvenience to them but there's not much they can do other than send you a snarky tweet..having an army of followers going after you must be a pain though..I'm on twitter a lot and 50% of sports themed accounts are lifting their material uncredited. For comedy accounts the percentage is higher...every comedy account is at it.

Twitter won't go after this it's not policeable. There's no precedent for an entertainer to go legal against someone on twitter and it would destroy their rep so that won't happen..I would suggest if you are having to hammer the block button then try and use a few other sources for a few weeks until this comedian and their fans stop tracking what you are doing

They seem to have calmed down already. They only have about 15,000 followers and I know in general that's not enough to get 100s of awful tweets mentioning you.

I can totally understand the side of it where people will think, well come on credit the guy - but a joke/humourous tweet is just that. It's surely there to be shared to other people and make them laugh. It's not like I've hacked into a website and stolen personal information and credit card data.

I do retweet some of my tweets to almost half a million followers in my larger accounts so have a lot more followers than the source anyway. I just think if you make up a joke from scratch; accept that people will tell their friends. If you tell a joke to your mates in the pub it's not like anybody ever says, "Oh, and by the way that joke was tweeted on Twitter by @x.. lol"

:o

Yes ethically you are a bit dodgy !!! However comedians are on twitter to self promote and black hatters are only there to get paid...I would avoid lifting anything off daftlimmy or dougstanhope though....those guys are nuclear !

do you copy and paste this jokes manually?

Yeah. A lot of the stuff they put are absolute shite, so if I think they're funny and make me laugh, I'll just paste them and tweet em. I don't copy and paste everyone - like I say, a high % aren't funny at all, IMO.

I don't think there's any chance that you will be suspended. From my observation a TON of accounts, even ones with 100k's of followers, are up to this.

Yeah your account can get suspended, I've seen it happen. It's more likely to happen though if you are copying someone who has a verified account.

Thick? Am I? I know what it's like for someone to steal tweets and not give credit. It's not cool AT all. If I was that person I would report you as well.

You're on the wrong forum my friend and how about this for a bit of irony... you're being a troll.
