There's nearly unlimited potential. I know people who make $25k/yr doing some stuff, and others who make $25k/month.
Honestly though, people get too caught up in the numbers and don't actually do any work. And people want step by step programs to copy, which don't work if you don't add your own twist. If you're making nothing, here's something you can do right now;
Go to Clickbank and find a product. Could be anything. Something that has a decent landing page, fairly high gravity (I'd say over 100) and isn't too expensive (under $30 or so).
Copy your hoplink and go to Blogger. Create a blog using the keyword from the product. Add the product, using your keyword, in the link list on the side of the site. Maybe again in the footer. Then create a blog post about it. Basically just give it a 'overview' review. Explain what it is, use copy from sales page.
Go to twitter. Create 2-3 accounts to start. Use different names, different pictures, etc. Make yourself believable. In your interests fill out that you work in your niche, ie if your niche was dog training, you would be a dog trainer from some city.
Go to twitter search, as I posted above and search for 'first tweet' 'new to twitter' etc. Add all these people. Then start searching for keywords, so dog trainer, dog training, etc. Add people who mention it, and the people who ask about something you should @reply to them about your blog.
Push these people to your blog and hopefully they will click through and buy the product - if you're believable enough. Also, go to ezine articles/go articles/hubpages/whatever and copy/paste a few articles from there onto your blog, inserting your link multiple times throughout the article.
Will take about 30 mins to setup, if that - and then an hour (or however much you can put into it) a day for promotion.
Protip: Stir up shit. No joke here. If you're a dog trainer, say that Cesar Millan (Dog Whisperer on National Geographic) is full of shit. And that he's a fraud. Do this in a blog post and spread it across all your accounts. You'll get so many click throughs you won't know what to do with yourself.
Protip 2: Add "Please RT" at the end. RT= ReTweet, meaning some people will re-post it to their stream (link and all).
Now that I've written an essay, go out and do it. And if it doesn't work in the first 2 hours.. try again. Don't be afraid of failure, try it for a week or 2, maybe 30 mins/day and after awhile you'll figure out what works and what doesn't.
Now go do it and PM me when you've made some money. No excuses.
