Well it’s is going to get interesting. Not sure if the $8 a month will make up for all his other losses. Although I can see why a bunch of normies would love to pay for the “prestige” of a blue check mark.

Elon Musk bought Twitter for US$44 billion (which most people feel, is an irrational business decision). When a person has excessive money AND a huge cult type following, such a person takes irrational decisions in order to increase, boost the cult type following. Now, he will take further irrational decisions including what he will further do with Twitter : fire almost all human employees, perhaps add more subscription based features, etc.
@Cryptopunk , the US$8 or so monthly is to simply maintain (continue with) the Twitter blue tick. The approval / verification process to get the Twitter blue tick remains the same upto now.

i think he will crush it, its not like he sucked at paypal, tesla ,space x. there will be a new verification system anounced by twitter for real public figures, the $8 verification will soon be known as verification for peasants, BUT better twitter features, so twitter blue with a badge for ppl to be happy and proof they can afford $8 a month, nornally botfarms wouldnt pay 10k x $8

Twitter is losing over $4M/day.

He needs much more to cover the losses.
 
I think Musk has worked out the ways that value can be restored to Twitter with these changes. Getting rid of most of the botting will restore the faith advertisers have in the genuineness of the members they are supposed to be reaching. Dropkicking the endless wokeness will improve good will with members who've been banned or suspended for dubious reasons. And one of the nice things about the check marks is one you are verified, you can tweak the settings to receive tweets only from other blue members. This is big if you become very huge on the platform, and can't keep up with every member who tries to contact you.
 
Twitter (rather Elon Musk) has already fired a lot of it's staff including lots (in thousands) that moderate content and Twitter (rather Elon Musk) is planning to fire even more staff that does content moderation.
This means that Twitter (rather Elon Musk) is betting high on AI to fully moderate content !!! We all know how (upto now atleast) AI screws things up. Depending almost fully on AI for content moderation will result in even normal general acceptable contents getting flagged and such Twitter accounts getting wrongfully (permanently) suspended. Twitter is in for multiple shit-f__k load(s) of some terrible screw ups ahead quite soon.

I don’t think that will be enough. Besides, I’m sure he will end up having to hire a bunch of people to replace those jobs. AI isn’t good enough to replace all human jobs yet.

Even if they charge you $8 for blue tick mark and assuming that all people who have it pay for it - the best case scenario - still the revenue will not match the interest they are supposed to pay for the loan they have.
 
I think he should make other colours and features for each. I mean we paid $7.5 monthly to be blue here and the features are amazing...
 
Twitter is gonna collapse hard, just look at any conservative app like parler or gab. No advertisers whatsoever, just a gigantic circlejerk. Regardless of your politics, business wise those 'free speech' platforms don't make a dime.

While pushing subscriptions is a smart move, forcing it to keep blue checks has got to be the dumbest fucking move that egomaniac has made apart from firing like half his staff only for his managers to realise that they need many of those people to implement madman musk's wishes.

Use of the n-word skyrocketed with 500% after Elon acquired Twitter. Only a sign to me that the trolling, which Twitter gradually (not completely) reduced over the past years which made the platform actually profitable for once, will return and turn Twitter in some sort of MySpace.

Too bad, Twitter used to be a neat platform despite its quirks.

Lol now Bloomberg is reporting that Twitter is calling people they laid off and asking them to return. They are apologizing for accidentally laying them off
