    Hello ,

I want to know the reason behind the fast growing popularity of twitter , I want to know what it has more that facebook etc do not have .. My opinion about twitter (non-marketing view) is only a page where people updates what they have been doing etc .. I am finding twitter hard to understand from a non-marketing view . I would also like to know the purpose of sites like twitpic , yfrog etc

    Thank you

I honestly have no idea. Facebook has statuses and a much easier to use interface, why not use them?

Only advantage of Twitter I see is that famous people actually update them.

facebook did the status update due to twitter..
and twitter is MUCH more simpler... theres only like 3 things you can do. post. direct message. and follow.
it was originally for people to blog with their phones and then got big to the net.
its addictive. thats why its booming. I use it to just ' spam ' basically and im hooked.

Ever see the movie "Weekend at Bernies"? That's Twitter. Dead but nobody told them yet.

You can buy 2000 fresh twitter accounts for like $30. You can get software designed to completely automate a shotgun style "follow everyone, see who sticks" approach. The fact that it's so simple to code for makes it ripe for every spammer who can spell API.

I worked directly with Twitter for non IM things for a long time in a high volume "enterprise" sort of way. It's a fragile mess that's going to fall in on itself at some point.

At the rate new spammy accounts are being added to Twitter the percentage of accounts that are real is just going to drop and drop. This isn't email spam because there's no reasonable way to stop it. Eventually the people who actually use twitter will get fed up and leave, and 20million spammers can have fun following and unfollowing each other.

There's no reason to believe otherwise.

Porn stars' tweets are actually pretty interesting sometimes.

    Just sayin'.

I've been thinking the same thing. Twitter has an annoying as hell interface. Facebook for me.

Well they say it's the closest thing to human thought since we all think in bite size chunks and not full blog posts etc. I personally think it's information overload but if you use it right it can actually replace your RSS reader since it can act as a filter... let people find the best content on whatever niche you're into. Cancels out the rest of the noise right?

If your friends are there over facebook, you'll go there. If they use twitter, you'll go there. I too, wonder why use it though? I think a big part is the availability and compatibility with many big time products/websites. It makes it easier than facebook (although facebook is slowly spreading in those terms such as XBL).

Will agree with the attention hoe above. They might have 25mil. registered real people, but how many real spend their time there?

I for one registered on twitter out of curiosity after hearing twitter! TWITTER! everywhere, but I don't see much usefulness as a communication tool ... blogs are much better than twitter.

Why should anyone care that "I am having coffee with my family" ? or "reading a book abt how to make money with twitter" ??

Yeah, twittering that you just ate a sandwich is completely whoring for attention. Using an inch tall font, that's just to prove how emphatic your point is.
