Twitter Follower Tips

I've been using Tweepi to follow people and grow my follower base. Why is that some days when I use it I get up to 60 followers and other days I only get 10. Is it the tool? The way I follow people?

Here's my strategy and hope I can get some feedback on it:

1. Pick accounts that have to do with my niche
2. Follow 950 a day for 3 days - pick a new account every day to get followers
3. On day 3, unfollow everyone
4. Repeat

So far I've been getting an average of 40 followers per day. Lots of great engagement since I post about my niche. Any other tips?

You're going to get your account locked, banned and/or suspended. Twitter has tightened up considerably in the last few weeks and is penalizing aggressive following activity. I'd slow it down or cease completely for a little while until Twitter eases up again. This stuff ebbs and flows. I've backed my settings down considerably.

Anyway, here are my thoughts:

1.) Your followback ratio is way too low. I'm not sure about tweepi's capabilities, but you definitely need some filters in place. You need to only follow people who are active on Twitter -- say, people who've tweeted within the last three days. You might be following a lot of inactive users, and even bots, and that may be what's keeping your followback ratio so low.

When I was following 900+ a day, I was typically getting anywhere from 200 to 550 new followers a day. I now follow 100 to 200 a day and tweet some Vines or gifs each day, and I still get about 100 new followers a day.

2.) Look for accounts that are not only related to your account, but that have also used the mass following technique themselves in order to grow. Basically, look for accounts where the following and followers numbers are more or less equal. Follow their followers -- those people are very likely to follow you back, because they already have a demonstrated tendency to do so. (But be sure there's lots of activity on the target account in the form of likes and retweets -- you want to avoid accounts that have been built through #teamfollowback etc.)

3.) You can follow and unfollow in the same day. It's not a problem, in and of itself.

4.) Only unfollow the people who didn't follow you back after a certain period -- say, three days.

5.) In addition to mass following, and given Twitter's strictness lately, try for some organic growth. Find something that will get a lot of retweets in your niche -- memes, gifs and Vines are good in many niches, and plain old quotes can be good, too. Tweet this type of material as often as you can. The retweets will dramatically expand your reach and get you more followers. As your account grows, this becomes more and more effective. Also, tweet a trending hashtag or two each day, if you can think of something that relates to it.

1. I've added numerous filters to add only people that are engaging on twitter and to make sure they're not bots. There are the filters I have: Ratio >60%, profile picture, location text, more than 50 followers. So still not sure why I only get ~50 per day even though I follow 950. Does using Tweepi, by pass notifications on the phone or something i.e not send them?

One thing I do like is the 50 I get, are actual people that are engaging. So I guess I have that going for me.

5. re: retweets. I've been retweeted many times but influential accounts in my niche - sometimes ones that have 1m followers but I rarely get any follows because of that. Not sure if I'm doing anything wrong.

I've also started liking hashtags that have to do with my niche. That helps in getting some followers.

I use pretty much the same technique with crowdfire. It gets old fast when you realize basically every account is doing the exact same thing lol

The reason may be you are doing injustice to the people you are following. As much as the trick that you are using works, it is very poor when it comes to ensuring customer retention and active. Twitter is a two way network where guys feel okay when you follow and they follow you. Avoid having the unfollowing process and you will have a better deal.

I don't think these matter much; they may actually be hurting you. The one key thing is that they need to have tweeted within the last XX amount of time. Three days is a good start.

You can't always tell. I don't think Twitter analytics capture this very well. Sometimes you do see a few "follows" in the analytics for a particular tweet, but I think a lot more actually occur. On my main account, if I tweet a few things that get 100+ retweets on a given day, I definitely get more followers than on a day when I'm not active.

you should slow down the process of following people to avoid getting your accounts banned

you should lessen the following of people, make an interesting tweets so you followers retweet your tweet.
