Twitter Direct Message Advertising questions

So I have some questions regarding the advertising of stuff via Direct messages

Does anybody promote their social media services via DM's? If so, how many DM's do you blast a day, and, have you received warnings from Twitter?

I wouldn't recommend using DM's at all. It's just incredible how much spam messages are send every day. Chances are that your message either won'r be read at all or the people who read it are just pissed of because of it and unfollow you right away.... Just saying :O

How do you promote your stuff via twitter then? I.e social media services?
