Twitter cuts off Ifttt API access. Hootsuite/Dlvr.it/Twitterfeed next?

Twitter stops giving Ifttt API access.


Now, I don't think Twitter is doing this for abuse/spam prevention reasons. (They broadcast earlier this summer to all developers that they were going to be clamping down on a bunch of 3rd party stuff. Most of it relating to display stuff. This wasn't a spam-protection spree.)

But it definitely has black hat implications. Ifttt automates... a lot of stuff.

What I'm most curious about is if they cut off parts of Hootsuite (just the RSS feed stuff. Hootsuite does a million other things. And Twitter has previously made it clear that Hootsuite is a "teacher's pet" and they like how business friendly it is. But it does have some overlap with Ifttt. I also wonder about twitterfeed and Dlvr.it and many other similar services I won't outline here.)

Isn't it because they weren't making Twitter any money?

hope they won't do dlvr.it, that would bring some serious problems to me.

I don't think that's why. None of the thousands of 3rd party apps make Twitter any money, except one (GNIP).

But if you know something different, I'm all ears.

I'm more surprised they have been allowed for so long, to be really honest not the other way around... Anyways the very simple answer to this has four letters: curl
