I've noticed some people's Twitter account has a page rank pretty decent, like 5, but mine is zero.

I checked out one person's backlinks and there were only 8, and these were there because they happened to have a comment on the person's Twitter page, when the Google Bot visited the site.

So my question is, do you need to get decent external links in order to get a nice PR on Twitter, or because it's an Authority Site, is it probably a case that Google doesn't yet know my account exists, and if I get it to spider it, it'll soon get some decent PR?

Thanks in advance.

It doesnt matter if they had a page rank of 10, twitter is no-follow.

A valid point. One that left my head just before writing the post :p

Twitter has the benefit of getting a page spidered quickly, if a Twitter account is linking to the page in question, is that correct?

Thanks anyway.

Im not an expert on SEO, but im sure someone will come along and answer it for you:)

nofollow? ********? lol nofollow is better ;) jst kidding but they're the same to me.

yea... Twitter's homepage has a rank of 9 so for the rank juices to flow to the sub pages, it is pretty easy for Twitter accounts to gain an average rank of 4. I previously had an account with a PR5 but it goes back to zero when I change the username but it shot up to 4 last week after the Google PR update.

How Goog is assigning PR to twitter pages is still a bit of a mystery. I've seen posts claiming that number of followers and recency / number of posts is a factor. I have also seen info from Google stating that their Social Search algo is looking at these items. I do not think that external links pointing to your profile is heavily weighted.

I agree with YoungGuy! nofollow vs follow - whatever! I've ranked a blog in #1 spot in Google solely through commenting on nofollow blogs using my keyword as my "username" linking to the page I want ranking - it may not hold as much weight, but it does give some credit - and for a couple of my niches, enough to rank #1 in Google!

And non believers - I've tried and tested it!

Additionally Twitter is a nice way to jump onto the 1st page for your chosen keyword ;)

The best keywords are busy already. If only combinations with numbers...
