Do quizzes that lead to an email submit. Those will work, I've done them with google news sites. Additionally, get an email list going!

CPA Lockers or PPD Lockers convert good with SEO traffic :)

You mean content locking the site with email submit surveys?

    That's what he meant, yes.

Content locking is the most popular monetisation method for this kind of sites, but if you're new to it then make sure that you only promote networks/offers that allow movie traffic, as not all of them do (even if they allow content locking and incent in general).

No im not new to this but i was just asking cause i think content locking is not working so great anymore.Like if i want to see something online and end up in a site that has content locking on i pass to the next one and i think if im doing it more peeps are doing it,plus its annoying.

I don't want something that annoys my visitors.

I've actually experimented quite a lot with movie sites and in a way you're right - movie sites + content locking used to make MUCH more money a year ago than it does today. But with that said, this is mainly due to offers getting worse and more and more networks saying that they don't want movie traffic, rather than due to visitors getting less inclined to complete a survey. This means that, while compared to a year or two ago, you need to spend a lot more time preparing your site (finding good offers, or covering your tracks if you're promoting non-incent offers) it's still possible to profit the same if not more.

Your only real alternative is ads (you can do either CPA ads or even PPC - obviously not Adsense as they don't allow this kind of traffic), and this is what you should do if you care about your visitors and want them to have a positive experience. But financially speaking, with sites like this you don't really care about repeat visitors as repeat visitors don't make you any money (they will know that they find the stuff they want on your site and will ignore the ads), whereas first time visitors are inclined to complete content locking offers or click on ads. The only reason why you would want repeat visits is so that they would recommend your site to others and it would get big, but with this kind of site this (the site going big but making a low CPM - which would happen with traditional ads) is the very last thing you want as this way you would quickly draw a lot of unwanted attention and end up with a continuous fight against everybody trying to shut your site down / sue you.

Exactly. Testing is the only real way to know what works for your site/traffic in particular.

The best thing about it is that it's completely free :) When testing content locking you will find plenty of free solutions (networks offering their lockers) before switching to a more complex software. And with PPC/CPA ads, well, that's just the question of getting the ad and sticking it up on the site.

    Good luck with your venture!

Use some kind of content lock to give access to the TV show.
    Adsense or other ad networks

Most TV show websites tend to use pop-up advertising.

Image Ads that show a large 'DOWNLOAD' graphic have quite a good conversion on these types of sites because new users think they have to click the download button to watch the show.

Yeah,i've done some research on other tv shows sites and it seems like most of them are using popups with 2 buttons one with watch now and one with download now.

Im sure adsense dont alow this so thats a no no.

Anybody can recommend some good popup ads networks?

Another technique that I haven't seen anyone using which has always surprised me because I would definitely do it if I had a TV site myself. It's a content lock that appears after the viewer has already watched 60% of the show/movie.

I'm sure this would have a very high conversion because I doubt many people would go off to look for the content elsewhere if they had already seen most of it on your site. I imagine it would piss them off but most people would just fill in the quick survey to get the rest of their content. I know I would unlock the content if this happened to me.

I'm not sure where you would get a content lock for a video player to set this up but I'm pretty sure you'd find one with a few good Google searches.

If you do try this, I'd love to know how well it works. I'm betting you'll get some high conversions doing this.

As I said, I'm surprised more people don't do this on their TV sites but also, I guess this would also work well with torrents. If you upload a TV show torrent that locks half way through and asks for the password to continue. Hardly anyone would start a brand new download, most people would just go and unlock it.

People have been doing this for years. There are HUNDREDS of sites with reliable links to tv shows that are very well known that just make money from ads, someone might finish a survey to finish the video but next time are they going to come back and do a survey or find a hassle free site?

Thats why i asked wich way is better to monetize this.Because i want my visitors to come back when a new episode is uploaded.
I really think it comes down with testing and see what is working well.Ads,content locker or pop up ads.

I will be testing this and see what works best and then i will come back and post the results.Or better yet im planning to start a journal here soon to keep focused on my work.

    Thanks guys for the replys.
