[Tutorial] - Make Money w/Amazon Affiliate Program

I'm writing a three part tutorial on how to make money with Amazon's affiliate program. These are the steps:

1. How to Pick Winning Products to Promote

2. How to Create a Website that Will Drive Conversions

3. How to Get People to Your Site in Order to Drive Clickthroughs

Step 1 is posted on my blog (link below). This tutorial will be great for people new to Amazon's affiliate program, but it will also be good for Amazon affiliate pro's as I'll cover things in depth and provide insight that you may have not considered before.

Great points. I'm looking forward to reading your methods of driving traffic. BTW, if I sign up for your free ebook thing will that put me on your email list so I know when you write part 2 and part 3?
 
Thanks, that are some useful point to startt with. and the festival season will be on after a couple of months. so, its best to start doing amazon product site now and optimize them in 2 months.

If you enter your email there you'll be subscribed to my newsletter... I only send out 1 or 2 a month and talk about methods/tips/etc... which I don't post online.

If you want to find out when new posts are added to the site you'd need to check manually or if you have a rss reader add my feed.

Yeah, the blog is one of my things to do when I need a break during my day so I'll be keeping it (and this thread) up to date when I need some downtime.

For every other product on Amazon (referred to as General Products) there is a variable commission rate. The most General Products you sell the higher your commission rate goes. Let's take a look at these rates:

Nice article, some good tips, especially about the 24 hr cookie, some people forget that so you need to target visitors who are ready to buy.
 
Im realy looking forward to this! I have alot of problems with gettting conversions. I have great traffic and product but I think im not doing it right.
Also buy keywords are realy hard to write content about!

edit:how much did it cost you to setup such submit email banner and autoresponder? I would love this for my website.

Email submit box I paid someone on Odesk $25 to create for me. Email capture and autoresponder is free Wordpress plugin. Once my list grows I'll use AWeber as it will be much easier to manage as right now this way is messy and a pain in the ass.

I have visited your blog and read the points you mentioned. Its quite good from the point you view, like calculating the percentage of commission based on the product type.
 
I think most people realize what you are talking about which is the age old question

that no-one is going to pick your niche for you - it's got to be something you can write content about but not quite popular enough that you can get ranked for it.

The funny thing is - that you can compete for competitive terms and make sales - because the search volume is so much bigger and wider you can always bleed away traffic from the main sites.

Go too far down and if your not Number 1 you get little to no traffic -- so therein lies the decision - pick something more based on the content you can provide and hunt for the buying keywords and you can find success ... it won't be fast but you will make $$$$.

Making money online is not easy, if it was than everyone would do it. But at you can see on BHW most people struggle to make money... this is because most people are lazy and want to make money fast with little work. With that attitude 99% of people will fail, and the other 1% are either very smart or lucky and they will succeed.
 
Good write up...please don't do like 99% of other insightful posters and not give us the promised follow-ups!
