[Tutorial] How to Buy & Flip Domain Names for Profit

I'd like to read Meathead's thoughts on this. I'm sure it's worth the read though.

great sharing. thought of doing this but didnt know where to start. now I have some idea.. Thanks!

I'm just browsing out that http://www.tld.org/tld-blog site and some domains are just amazing to snatch. Too bad you need a CC or Wire Transfer to fund your namejet account. I have to wait before my account is funded now as I don't have a CC :) Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting article! Any luck someone would have an alternative to http://www.leadrefs.com? They've shut down.

If you're serious about it you should get a custom coded software which does what leadrefs did. Use odesk and spend $150 and you'll get a piece of software that will pay for itself in the first day (or week) depending on the quality of the domains you own and are selling.

i guess your still making bank on this. most of the methods that require an investment never get saturated. think im gonna try this. what would you say your average investment is now. do you go after higher end domains or just keep it where it is?

I buy all types of domains, from hand registered domains for $9/each to domains for $X,XXX each. The thing is you need to determine how much cash you can afford to have tied up and the risk you are willing to take. If I buy a domain for $9 my goal is to sell it for $397 or more. If I buy a domain for $X,XXX I want to at least double my money. It is easier to sell a domain for $397 than for $X,XXX or $XX,XXX so when you go for a bigger score you may need to sit on it a while before you wind up finding a buyer.

The sweet spot (where I have done best) is buying domains in the $100-$500 range and selling them for somewhere in the $X,XXX range. My most recent sale I bought for around $400 about 8 months ago and sold it this past month for $7,800 and the buyer found me which is always nice.

Flipping domain names is definitely a money maker. There is always money to be made in this niche

Yes, I know this is an old thread. I'm well aware of it.

OP, I see this was posted in 2012, how is this method working out for you since then?
