A Quick & Dirty guide to making a quality autoblog at TheProductJudge (or even your own domain)
Hey everyone, just wanted to report to you some observations I am seeing with some of the blogs being created or that have been created not too long ago. Some good, some bad. Without revealing the good ones, and when I say good I mean getting great traffic on a daily and ranking for many long tail keywords, I can give you an overall idea of how to approach if you don't know where to start.
If this is your first time around autoblogging, or blogging for that matter and are at a loss for what niche to target, go after a specific product name or product type rather than a broader niche. There are 2 benefits to this approach.
1. Given that you are more targeted, you have a better chance at making more conversions through your monetization methods.. The more specific your keyword/niche, the more inclined your visitor is to take action since these folks know exactly what they are looking for.
2. Capitalize on TheProductJudge domain name. In the SERP results, if someone is looking for a review, or info on a product, the listing looks great if its something like sonymp3player.theproductjudge.com. The main domain name compliments the product name well (searcher: "hmmm, this site sounds like it reviews this and other products and "judges" them, I'll click and check it out.)
Once you have a few product names or product types picked out, you want to select those that have a good ratio between global search volume and number of competing pages. In a nutshell what you're looking for is the highest amount of search volume on a keyword that also has the lowest amount of search results. Won't throw out any specific numbers, just follow that rule of thumb. Plenty of informative KW research threads here. Use a tool like MS or MNF if you have access to them to help gauge the competition.
Grab a domain with the exact product keyword so your URL becomes exactkeyword.theproductjudge.com. If that domain is already taken, shoot for exactkeywordreview, exactkeywordstore, exactkeywordinformation or something along those lines. Point being is to have the keyword first, not bestexactkeyword (this still works, although a bit more difficult to rank quickly).
Once you have a handle on that, choose a color appropriate theme if possible based on the demographic of that niche and setup your plugins accordingly (more advanced psychological triggers, wont go into that here). If you don't have a handle on effective content mashups using wp-robot or other content syndication plugin, again do a search around here or sit tight as I'm putting together a 'settings' guide that I like to use.
Don't have much time to elaborate right now, but I'll expand on this as necessary for the noobs.
