[TUT] Make Amazon Sites That Convert

Thanks and +rep for such a clear, clean and concise tut!

A couple quick questions from a relative noob:

1) you mentioned you get traffic from google... Is this based on your page rankings, ie organic traffic, or....?

2) what other methods are you using to drive traffic? Have you tried pinterest, tumblr, etc?

3) Could this work on blogger.com platform?

Thanks again!

1) Yes, organic rankings.

2) You can link directly from tumblr to Amazon and I do that. I also love yahoo answers to drive traffic to a site with this layout. I've tried a few others, like Pinterest, but I linked directly to Amazon from Pinterest and I'm not sure that's okay with Amazon's TOS so I stopped. I haven't worked with Pinterest >> own site >> Amazon but I imagine it would lead to sales.

3) Absolutely and I do that routinely. I even have one of my domains hosted on blogger that I do this with. You can either use method #1 or method #3. You can do it with other web 2.0s like squidoo and webs and tumblr.

L,
thanks for the quick response...

For clarification using the blogger platform, do you use a blogger domain (whatever.blogger.com)? If so, do the keywords need to be in there (ie, keywords.blogger.com)?

Or what would you suggest with using blogger?

Thanks again,
Jax

Most of my blogger blogs are keyword.blogspot.com and I suggest going with those.

I have one domain that I have hosted at blogger as well so it is mysite.com just built with the blogger CMS and hosted on blogger's servers. It is a large site though, not a micro niche site and it was an experiment, not something I plan to do a lot. Blogspot is best for a bunch of free micro blogs.

.

Do you have any suggestion for which template to use in blogspot? How many article on average do you have per blog?

Thanks

I like the one that I think is called "simple" with the right sidebar. The default background is blue but you can change it.

I usually use one LONG article.

Thanks for the great post!

You keep emphasizing that you use one LONG article. How long do you make the articles for your sites?

Thanks! :-D

For micro niche sites I like to have 1000 words minimum on the front page. Sometimes that comes from several shorter articles and sometimes from one long article. Lately I've been putting one 2k-3k word article on the front page and that has been working nicely.

For my larger sites I have some short articles, mostly around 300-400 words and some even shorter and those do fine. You can rank shorter articles, it just sometimes takes a little more work.

What a great TUT. Before i get started i just wanted to ask a few things..
How many articles do you suggest to have or is it better just to keep adding them and try and dominate the entire category or is it better just to stick closely to the keyword?

Do you prefer to use pages or post... one static Page and many posts...or just a bunch of pages?

So its good to add the pics/tracking id above every content on every page/post..and every page/post i should be targeting one keyword?

I want to make sure i add my tracking ID correctly to make sure my cookie goes to their pc .
so for the screen shot method, what is the easiest way to add your Amazon Cookie to the images you display?

thank you
Super nice of you to share this.

How many articles really depends on the niche and keyword. For you, mrgreen, you could definitely turn your site into a larger site targeting lots of related keywords. Just make sure you have a very targeted article stickied to the front page for your keyword.

Posts, definitely posts. Making a large site with just pages can make cause issues in load time.

If each post is for a different keyword then you should make one for each post.

The easiest way is to use the "link to this page" button on Amazon and find the link in the HTML box.

WOW! Never thought of this.

Finally it is a tactical game for affiliates. As the main concern is to set the cookie to customers computer, the site makes exactly this. And "Call-to-Action" button does its work as usual.

Great Share!!

seems like many here over-complicate things. Figure out what your ideal outcome is and build a site around that. If you want visitor to go to your AMZ link than make it very simple and "in your face" to do so. Unless you want them to dick around, get confused and hit the back button. Everything should be pretty clear from first post,
Thanks LBrown for the tut and good luck everyone

man, I went and bought the amazon plugin that the OP linked but when I went to upload it on wordpress it says:
The package could not be installed. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature
Now I have to wait for support.

Which one was it? If it is adsplugin I can send you a working copy, but he is great with support.

Hi Lbrown,

Fantastic and concise tutorial. I was looking at the adsplugin you featured and was wondering if its easy enough to set it up like you have.

Looking at the adsplugin website and their example ads, is it fair to assume that this plugin allows you to strip certain elements from being shown. An example being no description or borders etc etc?.

Yes, you can create your own layout/format with the plugin. I never use the borders. It's pretty easy to change. There's no good tutorial for it so you have to dissect their layouts and put it back together however you want it to be. If you want I can send you the code I used for the layout in the OP.

Thanks for the kind offer LBrown but I watched the videos on crazy tools and it seems to offer exactly what I am after.

Can I ask with regards crazy tools, can you tell me if it is one domain per purchase?.

and...

Do you simply add the price plugin shortcode into the html crazy tools produces upon successful creation of your Amazon layout?.

Thanks for your help thus far.

HOmER

You can use crazy good tools on as many sites as you want.

Crazy good tools has a shortcode for ASIN so I put the code for ASIN nested into the code from the price plugin. But I don't use the crazy good tools plugin (I just use the on-site tool) so I don't know exactly how that works with the plugin.
