Turn Coding Skills into Money?

• No one cares if you can develop it from scratch. Unless you'll develop a framework they'll always ask you to work with something opensource or a company closed source framework
• Master a framework like Symphony or Codeigniter.
  
• Learn how to work with the most popular libraries at validation, ODM/ORM, view engines like Razor, authentication protocols for OAuth2, etc
• Study architecture patterns. You've to follow some basic principles while writting code. "Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software" is a must read.
• Know how to work in team with code versioning
• Get a few public code developed at github or something like that

I've worked with software consultant companies from my 19 to 24 and i can tell you there's already too many people learning PHP and MySQL, but you can easily get on top of them by being a better coder.
