Trying Tumblr Again...

I just solved a technical problem when initializing my scripts that should allow me to run them completely isolated, in parallel, while batching their workload.

With this, I should be able to run my poster script, to create multiple posts in parallel, on multiple accounts at the same time :D

Don't know what you want to promote but here how i did it built a network of accounts in the old days. I created account, added themes, connect to IFTTT, i added a couple of feed from other big tumbler accounts with my link in posts and repeat. The only thing that do with the tumblr accounts was to verify if the account have recent posts, if not I manage that from IFTTT.

I also used IFTTT in the past. People used that as an alternative way of automating supposedly with less footprints / red flags.

- I've made a script that helps me manage the sessions of multiple tumblr accounts. It logs into the accounts and persist the session. So my other scripts don't even need to log in Tumblr.
- Ive made a script to browse multiple logged in accounts at once.
- I've made a script to regenerate the whole thing from the ground up.
- I have improved again how my scripts are initialized.
- I have learnt a bit further how playwright / nodejs work with async / await. Should enable me to create better scripts that run tasks in parallel.

I'm a bit busy but I think I'm ready to update the poster script as I described in my previous post.
If I don't fail to isolate the individual tasks and I can run them concurrently and batching them It's gonna be a lot of fun :D

I've found that while running concurrent tasks, and my CPU gets hogged... despite I'm awaiting while typing in the post content field, playwright sometimes fail to wait till it ends to type and leaves incomplete texts. For that... I'm gonna first get the text content, then append my text to it without simulating keypresses. This way it should just insert the whole text at once. Minimizing that problem.

So basically, I can set the total posts per account, set the batch size, and it will calculate it and act as corresponds.
But I saw that this hoggs my CPU too much.
So I've set the batchSize to 1 in this example. Doing this, it concurrently creates a single post for each account.
That should work wonders in a dedicated server though.
It's pretty stable now. It can run multiple batches without producing a single error :D

With 3 batches I'm being able to create 30 posts (across 10 accounts) every 1 min 15-20secs :D

Here's a suggestion Instead of moving to a dedicated server, why not Dockerize your bot and build an API service that bots would call and get the job they need to do (following profiles, posting comments, etc..). You could then run the bots on Google Cloud Run or GCP GKE, which would give you the flexibility to scale up smoothly to test high scale, manage server resources, and opposite to dedicated server just shut down everything and not pay while not using it

Although I like the idea of flexibility, scalability, and offloading the workload to cloud servers, and I'm already releasing my scripts as server/client.
And while it seems like a good suggestion to me that it may be cheaper than a dedicated server. There are a few reasons why I'm not using docker.

There are a few reasons why I'm not using docker:

- I am at an early point of development and testing. For example, right now I have no way to check if my multiple accounts are banned in a comfortable way.
- I don't have much experience using docker. I used it once or twice. Setting this up would take me additional time.
- Right now I have 0 conversions. So, at least at first, it would be loss making.
- Some free docker registrys require your image to be public.
- Some cloud services with free tier, they are only free to a certain extent. IMO those free tiers stop being free quickly.

I'm thinking that perhaps in the future I could use Cloudflare Workers. They are said to be cheap... Now I don't know if their TOS would support my bots? Probably not.

At this moment I have 30 accounts, in theory because I haven't checked if i'm banned on any of them. And I only used 10 of them till now...

My accounts creator received an update, it was like a draft.... Well... It's still a draft, but a bit less clunky. It let me create & verify some accounts on demand so I'm happy.

Now I'm modifiying my scripts so I can choose in a simple way over what accounts they work. ( using LIMIT / OFFSET )

I want to make that ban checker script, and a script that reports the "Activity" of the tumblr account. Maybe this is just one script, and not two.

I have polished the way my parallel poster perform individual actions, now those actions are more reliable. I have removed what I consider an anti-pattern / bad practice (explicitly waiting x time (lower than 1 sec) between actions). Not needed anymore.

I have tested posting with all the accounts (30) at once.
My computer hasn't crashed... but it was very close to crash.
Is not productive.
I've found that is more productive for me to just use 5 accounts everytime, but do some posts at once with each of them.
I came up with two new ideas to make my poster even faster, and hopefully as realiable as it is now.
I will also modify the way I publish the links in my posts... I think this new way will enhance the clickthrough rate (and that's a hint).

Today... I made a script, that I call checker.js
It basically loop through the accounts and check if they're are banned or not.
IF they're banned, the accounts are mercilessly DELETED from my database.
IF they're not banned, this output is shown:

Hopefully, all my accounts are alive.......... yet...

I think that now I'm gonna build a script to create a report of my accounts activity...

I've been two or three days planning and tidying things up... So I haven't made many posts. So I had close to no traffic.

I improved (again) the way I input the tags, now I'm getting them from DB. I think I have improved the way I use links in the posts as well (though I introduced a small bug that I'll fix soon). I hope this leads to a higher clickthrough rate.

I can do 25 parallel posts in 40 seconds. This is one post every 1.6 seconds. I think faster now.

Edit: Well, I tried... and of course, obviously I can't make so many requests at the same time....

The relation between the number of posts and the number of clicks is really really horrible.

Honestly, Is not worth it.

I'm curious for those posts made on the same day having > 1000 notes...
How they do it ?
They already have a following ?
Is their content better ?
It'll require further investigation...
