I am looking more at my ranking and site, and I just can't figure this out completely....I never received a message about unnatural link building. I have looked at my incoming links in WMT and see that there are 47 Tumblr links that look to be comment spam directing to my homepage. I honestly don't know any thing about these. I didn't do them, I didn't order them from a Fiverr Gig or anything.

I know I did some link building with LinkPushing for 3 months. I quit the service because their system always screwed up and I had an overall bad feeling about it. After Google de-indexed the blog networks, I searched for the sites that LinkPushing used and they were all de-indexed. However, my site hang solid until this Penguin update.

Now I am wondering if it was more on-site SEO. Could I have done too much without knowing? I am really at a lost here. I don't think I did much Black Hat stuff. The only thing I did on-site that was a little different was change the file of my logo in my header to a keyword phrase that I was targeting and also used another KY phrase in the alt tag. Other than that, not much on-site SEO except for H2 tags. But I tried to go the route of LSI with these.

I did use a another service for the last 3 months. I started using it to target KYs that I was already ranking in the top 20 for and tried to get higher. But the thing is that I didn't use it to target the KYs for my one money post that now fell out of the SERPS.

Could my site be penalized as a whole? It's not de-indexed and I am still in the top 100 for one of the original targeted KYs, but I fell from #7 to #88. I completely fell off the board for the other 2 KYs that I was ranking in the top 10 for.

More than likely on-site. That's what Penguin targeted. Of all the sites I work with, only one got bodyslammed. That one had some on page spam signals. Linkbuilding for all was the same. All the other sites gained rankings. Just do a bit at a time to the site & see if you can figure out what triggered the penalty. Or just try fix everything & hope for the best :)
