Trying to rank my first keyword

hey everyone! I'm going to try to rank my first keyword ever.
I did some research and I found something suitable with 9,000 monthly searches and 4000 local searches, I bought a domain that contains my keyword.

i heard that domain age matters for SEO and the top website for the keyword has a 10 year old domain(allthough he established his website about 9 months ago) I wanted to ask if the domain age is going to make him tough to beat?

also I have 9 year old domain(not the one I purchased now) is there any way I could use it for my benefit? (I heard something about 301 redirect....)

all help or extra tips is apperciated

Yes, domain age matters in SEO but not as much as backlinks. Not even close.

For your aged domain, if it has a clean backlink portfolio I would do a 301 redirect and blasts to the aged domain instead of your $ site.

Exactly what akazzz said it does matter but not as much. Stick to backlinks and good content and a steady traffic flow. If you do then you will be fine.

is the 4000 local broad or exact searches? I think either of your domains will be fine, it doesn't sound terribly competitive. If I were you, I'd start with a "all in one" service from the BST, get good link diversity and excellent anchor txt diversity. You can find a good package for about $100/month. After 2 months or so, do some targeted high PR links (blog comments, guest posts, whatever) to your main phrases - a couple hundred should be fine. make sure your anchor txt diversity is still in good shape and viola! you could be on the first page and ready to party... There is obviously lots to it, that's why a good service should be able to guide you accordingly, feel free to PM around and ask people who they like. Good Luck!

Why don't you start with some low hanging fruits? You can start with some low competitive keywords first and slowly climb up the ladder.

It gives him a leg up but let's be honest, with Google's algorithmic updates, you never know who might get hit. So be smart, be steady and you may win out!
