Trying to Rank as high as possible.

Hi everyone, awesome site here with lots of very knowledgable folks! I am a total NOOB at SEO and websites BUT i'm not totally thick that i can't learn!

Basically i have a product that is going to be a fire cracker this christmas and whilst i could sell via ebay/amazon i'd prefer to sell on my own site mainly because i won't have to fear ebay/paypal pulling the plug on me as many have come to discover!

I have already bought my domain, hosting and i've got a shopping cart ready to go. I haven't the slightest clue now how to promote it and how to do the SEO side of things. I'd like to try blackhat tricks to get it to 1st page of google if possible ONLY up until the christmas period is over, if the site then gets chucked by google i'm not bothered as it would have served its purpose. If it manages to avoid being chucked by google then i'd like the site to go white hat if possible....

Now i could ask to get a quote from one of you to do this for me, BUT i'd LIKE to learn how to do it myself so that i can do this for various products that i may come across and obviously expand my knowledge on SEO.

There's plenty of time before Xmas - but understand that if you are just starting then you have a VERY long way to go - I'm talking about years rather then days

As you are talking it looks like you have more things to learn, by the way I don't know if you are able to rank it for christmas, WARNING I said I DON'T KNOW, not that is impossible just skype me and I will be happy to help you with some quality backlinks services and then we'll decide about what keywords to rank and and how-to step by step guideline

The issue with using blackhat to rank now is, are they really worth it and worthwhile.

With a good white hat method after all this updates, you can easily get on page one.

Simply get some cool private network links and a few others from authority sites..

Have you analyze your competition?

not entirely sure how to go about checking out the competition unfortunately!! I've checked google keywords and for the word or products name, the competition is LOW and there are 18000 local searches for the word. Which is why if possible i'd like to get a stranglehold of the word now if possible....

I suggest Google Adwords if you know your product is a firecracker. If you can't advetise through Adwords effectively with above average ad copy, then your product isn't worth a dime. Expect to spend about $1k-$5k testing landing pages and ad copy, even the best of us need to tweak and spend such things to improve.

Is it a product that you are going to market after Christmas as well? Or is this just a one time deal? If this is a long term business/product then I would stay away form blackhat tactics and do it the right way for the long run.

This is just a one time thing, i won't be selling the item after christmas nor would i be worried if the website gets punished by google as long as its AFTER christmas...
