Hello all!

My question is, does Trustpilot use backlinks to optimize the brand's page on their website to ask for money?
I should explain because it seems like a real case.
A brand has a Trustpilot page with reviews. As we all know, Trustpilot has engaged in unfair business practices for years. The brand wants to leave the Trustpilot website, but Trustpilot bought many backlinks to optimize the keyword 'A brand + Trustpilot'. I think it is a conspiracy theory; however, these guys can do that.

Its their policy anyone can register you business there. Once done no one can deindex or remove the page as per their policies.
Its a pain in a**. Literally

I agree. Now they have deleted several reviews from the real customers.

I don’t think Trustpilot needs to buy backlinks for that. For most brands, the reason "brand name + Trustpilot" ranks well is simply because of how strong Trustpilot’s domain authority is and how often people search for reviews that way. Google naturally associates brand queries with review platforms. It’s pretty normal for review sites to rank for those combinations without any special conspiracy behind it

It’s possible that Trustpilot used backlinks to push the brand page higher for “Brand + Trust pilot” searches. This can make it harder for the brand to leave since their page stays visible. It’s more like aggressive SEO than a conspiracy, but it does feel a bit sneaky. Definitely something brands should be aware of.
