Truncated captions

I'm sure you all know that our captions are now truncated and only the first three lines are visible in the news feed (the rest being hidden behind the "more" text).

I was curious if anyone knew how many characters/words are show before they truncate the rest?

I've done a few tests but I can't get a consistent result.

Would be cool if there was something like charcounter which we could use to guarantee what we want isn't in the hidden part of the caption...
