Looks like TrueCrypt v7.1a until the code is forked under a new license and then well see I guess... The full audit will be telling as well.

That's the strange thing about it: The anon dev is giving stupid explanations like xp isn't supported by MS anylonger and truecrypt was directed at xp (?) and gives bitlocker as an alternative (but everybody knows, you can't trust a US- company 'bout security regards). The last working version has been replaced by a crippled one (7.2), caches/wayback machine have been edited.
He says is isn't secure, although a running audit of 7.1 comes to a different conclusion.
It looks as if he tries to look like a jerk to deliver some kind of message that he can't get through otherwise.

There is still no satisfactory information about why the project was shut down.
But there are other developers forking the original code and taking on the project. They have moved the project to Switzerland in order to prevent any interference from the US authorities.

I am relieved after seeing it, and I think people won't let such a great software to die just yet. It's sad to see that it is discontinued for the time being, maybe the developers were in some kind of trouble or something, who know.
But I really hope that this should not die. One of the best softwares of this time.

I bet truecrypt 7.1a is still far more secure than bitlocker MS crap

It is EXACTLY like the Lavabit case, in that the feds demanded the company backdoor their software for the NSA to access, while not notifying their users of the change. As with Lavabit, TC shut down operations rather than comply with bulk warrantless government surveillance while lying about the circumstances.
They had to be indirect in the way they disclosed their rationale, as Patriot Act-like procedures put a gag order on parties who get subpoenaed to comply (i.e., secret investigations, secret subpoenas, secret courts, secret charges, and if you disclose too much of your case to the public, you are in criminal violation of the law, and are subject to secret prosecution and incarceration).
