A few years ago I had a client get a letter from iStock asking about an image I'd put on their site. It was a fairly grumpy letter and the client brought the letter to me. Fortunately, my designer had kept things legit and had proof that the image had been paid for and rights had been secured appropriately. Thank goodness!

Here are my tricks that I will share with you: one legal , one a bit more non-honest :P
Legal way:Search on google:

^^You will save a few grands with this trick , you can download the biggest images for free and best of all legal. :)
Plenty of images to chose from.



Non-honest way(lol)

to reverse engineer.Put the istock/other stock sites image and you will probably find it.
 
here's the website youre looking for:

if you use ordinary google search you wont get the pcis, you must use google image search.

here's the footprint youre looking for:

inurl:"istock" + keywords
go to the results in google images, select the photos you like best, download and save with a new title that you have created.

use them only on your web2.0's and youre as safe as youre ever going to be, because otherwise, if you put them on your own domains, you're likely to be faced with this kind of sorry tale:

Yikes. However, they just got suckered into paying it. I wouldn't have paid it.
I have numerous images I've taken that other people bought from istock, plus ones I've even photoshopped the watermark out. Hopefully i don't get caught lol. I've also spent a couple hundred for the real ones through istock.

If I ever got caught I'd find someone who actually bought the image, and offer than $500 to say they bought it for me. lol
 
The better method is to have 2 windows open...one with istock or any stock photo site and one with google image search. When you find the image you want on istock, drag the image onto the google image search box...it will find other places that have the image, and most won't have watermarks. Rename the file and you are good to go. Remove image if lawyers email you ;)
 
I've photoshop the watermark out a few times, but I would also say, if I had large client, I would just buy the images, and charge the client or something like that. It's good for small scale personal projects
 
It's generally not a good idea to sell clients bootleg kit. Whether imagery, interfaces, or scripts; it's a baaaad idea. If they catch flack, obviously it comes back on you, but unlike you using it on one of your own sites; you actually sold, or sold benefits from, the original pirated product. The rules and penalties are different at this stage. Not a good look if you get caught.

That being said, it's still a valid googlehack, so good on ya.
 
Thanks for the nice share, but its not possible to get large size image with this tricks. Good for blog posts and small banners.

exactly. that's how I would use this method.
 
this is a nice method but for my projects i use free pictures or I buy them

You'll not get images for free, but just without watermark... at 72dpi and ~600px width...

All you need to do is google the id of the photo as that is what the file is called when you first buy it.. if they dont rename the file you get it for free!

As a graphic designer that i am, i also found high quality photos with your technic. The high quality photos are those which are size medium to High and their pixel size are more than 1000x1000

Not at all. It is ignorant of you to think that your business is professional. You not only put yourself at risk, worse is that you put your clients at risk. In that manner you are less than professional. All it takes is one customer getting sued.... and the customer is the one that will be getting sued as it is their site. Then they come after you for their loss in court, the loss of their web site and the loss of business from losing their site if it is shut down and anything else that they can think of. There will be no I'm sorry I did not know.
 
@mudbutt. You don't like having your business as unprofessional, but you have used images that break copyright on hundreds of client's sites? Tell me again how this is professional. You put everyone of them at risk for copyright infringement legal action. You know the old saying "don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining"? I think that applies to your definition of professional.
