Theres no trick.
MNS used to be a great way to target low comp kws 1-5k searches/month. You could get on first page google easily if you had a EMD MNS site, however, the rules have changed and if you have thin content you won't rank and G won't like it.
If you are into building sites target MNS within your main domain, aim for 8k+ words and give quality content to the users.

It takes minutes to create/generate these types of sites - it takes days/weeks/months to rank them

Micro niche sites have had there day. You can still earn off them but only small bucks. If you research your own niches and write your own content using some similar themes that you are well used to you could pump out 2-4 of these a day(of reasonable quality) If you had about 50 Micro niche sites they could bring you in a semi decent income.
