Translating then spinning wikipedia articles

My money sites are all focused on the history and culture of different countries all over the world.

I'm calling up, but don't have the time nor money to invest in writers who are going to make good content.

I've noticed that the English Wikipedia page for, let's say the Portuguese Empire, is good. But the Portuguese Wikipedia page about the Portuguese Empire is so much more detailed and straight-up 'better' than the English version.

My idea is to take the copy that's on the Portuguese Wikipedia page, translate it (via AI or another form of software) and then use a decent spinner to spin that English content into something else, then post it as a new blog.

My questions:

Has anyone done this before?
If so, what were the results like?
Is spinning it after translating it necessary, or can Google see that it's a translation of another language?

It seems that Google can detect if you use Google translator and refuses to index. This happened to 2 of my site . It indexed 3 posts and then stopped. I used Google translate. It could be due to Google not indexing new sites, but only 3 posts getting index for 2 translated sites tells me it can detect its a translated from Google translate. I will try use gsc to force it to index.
I would not recommend any spinning on main site, only for backinks(tier 1,2 etc).
So i will suggest to use a translator other than Google translate if you can. Theres a few options like IBM and Microsoft translate api with give you certain amount of free credits every month.

I haven't done it before, as I don't like using AI tools and spinners that much, and I recommend you to also use it with care and to always make sure that you manually check written articles so that they don't contain any mistakes or sound too generic.

As for results, I know only that some people have issues with indexing and ranking AI content, but indexing issues exist even without this, but with AI you just need to be more careful, that's all. Try to put at least some uniqueness in texts and the results will surely be much better.

If you decided to go this way, then you should spin the text, as yes, algorithms can recognize it's a duplicate or translated text, so I wouldn't risk being banned from ranking if there is a solution for avoiding it.

I've never used a spinner before, so I'll be going over everything with a very fine-tooth comb. Truth be told, it'd probably be quicker for me to write it myself, but I don't have it in me now. I'll certainly edit anything that's spun to mix it up and make it sound a little more unique, but yeah, it won't be a copy/paste job.

Google def knows if you use google translate. Ive heard you can get away with it if you go through a few translations through several languages though, but I wouldn't risk it.

I'd recommend DeepL for translations. Its seriously so good

Yeah I'll be avoiding Google Translate as the translating tool. DeepL is a tool that I've heard good things about too!
